First Fill

I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date!

Of course, I dont pay any attention and was an HOUR late to my appointment. I thought it was at 11:15, turns out it was at 10:15, but they said they would see me so I wouldnt have to re-schedule.

I got in there and got weighed. I lost 11.5 more pounds since my last check up. Yay! So I'm down 25lbs in 6 weeks. They took a little while to get my port, and she actually bent the needle LOL. She tried to explain to me that I already had 3cc's in there, but it wasnt actually in the band, but in the tubing, I wasnt sure what that meant. I had 2.4cc's put in and will get another 2cc's when I go back in May.

Ok, switching gears, I'm watching Dr Phil right now and its only 10 minutes into the show and its INTENSE. Its got thin people vs fat people. This guy was trying to say "We're not fat haters but we hate fat behavior", then rips open and shows his shirt says "No chubbies". (He's some fitness trainer? They have Jillian Michaels on there too). Then the "fat" side went NUTS on him.

I guess my question to all of you is, how do YOU feel about fat people, or being fat, or even thin people? Do you think there should be a law to "protect" obese people from being harassed?

I dont think being fat is anything good by any means, which is why I took the own steps in my life to change. I know people can have the "big is beautiful" attitude, and I used to have it, until I realized how poorly my health was for my age, and realized that I could be dead entirely too soon because of my poor eating habits, my laziness, and my lack of caring.

Ok, I want to finish this show lol. Hope you're all well!

  1. I think that big is beautiful...to a certain extent. I think that being obese is a risk to your health and it is not ok to say "its ok, I'm happy with who I am because I think big is beautiful" when it is impeding on your health and on being able to live a "normal" life (whatever the hell that is!!)

I certainly don't think everyone needs to be a size 6 but if you are fat to the point where it's risking your health...then its stupid to continue that behaviour! I think people need to take accountability for their own actions. I certainly had to - when I was 60lbs heavier than I am now. It was no-ones fault but mine and I worked my ass off (literally!) to become healthier. Not to be thin (because I probably NEVER will be) but to be healthy.

(ps I just noticed in your about me it says you are looking to ttc #3 next year!?! How did I not know this!!)

  2. I've been thinking about this for some time and I've wanted to comment. However, I want to do it when I'm not so tired and can actually say something coherent. I'll be back :)

  3. I think people are fat for a reason and a lot of it comes down to a lack of education as well as some laziness. My FIL fits the laziness bill as well as my mother. I'm overweight now and I'm lazy. I don't want to workout at naptime. I want to enjoy the quiet. And working out isn't going to do me a bit of good if I don't manage my diet so I'm working on that right now.

I think food is made to be convenient. How many families actually sit down to dinner? How many have a home cooked meal that doesn't require opening a can or popping a box in the microwave? These convenience foods (Stouffer's mac n cheese, boxed lasagnas, Chef Boyardee, etc) are loaded with so many preservatives and non-natural products.

Sadly it's something that is being passed on from generation to generation. Most families are two income households by necessity. Cooking from scratch is time consuming and when you don't get off from work until 5:30 and don't get home from grabbing the kids from daycare til 6:30, dinner is rushed and needs to be fixed quickly to avoid anarchy. We've relied on these convenience foods for so long thus our children aren't being taught how to cook. Kids as young as 5 know how to use the microwave, though.

That's what I mean about education. Also, fresh produce and healthy foods are EXPENSIVE! I went to Kroger yesterday and bought 2 bags of grapes @ $.99/lb, 2 bunches of bananas at $.49/lb, 2 bunches of asparagus at $1.99/lb, pull-ups ($6.99) and wet wipes ($7) and spent $38! OMG! So I paid $22 for produce...stuff that grows on trees or in the ground! The healthy cereals are upwards of $4/box here but I can buy the crap with oo-gobs of sugar in generic form for less than $2. Frozen veggies run about $1 a bag while canned run about $.50 and fresh veggies run about $1.50+/lb. For a family as large as ours is, the price adds up quickly and sadly, some people are forced to buy the unhealthy choices in order to be able to pay the rent, car payment & electric bill. It feels as though we're being set up for failure.
